The Purves-McBay residence is a uniquely intact example of early Gabled Vernacular Cottage architecture situated in the Oceanside neighbourhood of Kitsilano. Having been lived in continuously for over 100 years by the same family, this was one of the first homes built on the 1800 block of West 2nd Avenue. Much has changed in Kitsilano over a century, and this monumental home has witnessed the transformation of history. Today, a meticulous restoration of the main building is the basis for a collage of old and new infill townhome residences, maintaining the form and character streetscape of early pioneering Vancouver.
